Risks & Complications
LASIK and PRK are surgical procedures which use the excimer laser. As with any medical or surgical procedure, laser vision correction has limitations and risk although the risk of having a serious vision-threatening complication is less than 1%. Some of the risks are listed below:
  • Glare particularly with night driving (usually temporary but may last several months)
  • Corneal haze (this is part of the natural healing process, and typically fades with time)
  • Fluctuation of vision (decreases with corneal healing)
  • Undercorrection (corrected with an enhancement)
  • Overcorrection (corrected with an enhancement)
  • Loss of best corrected vision
  • Infection
  • Complications that could arise from microkeratome or laser malfunction
  • Other intra-operative situations which could delay completion of the procedure or affect final vision - these risks are explained in more detail in person at the time of your pre-operative evaluation
